OU hockey: Sooners to play first game of season against Texas Tornado

The OU hockey team will take the ice as it plays a pair of exhibition games against the Texas Tornado on Friday and Saturday night in Frisco, Texas.
In the first action for both teams this year, this weekend will be beneficial for both.
?I think it?s great for both sides,? OU coach Peter Arvanitis said. ?Obviously, they?re going to start their season the week[end] after. Obviously, it gives us the time to get ready for our season.?
The Sooners and the Tornado have not faced each other since 2010 with the teams splitting the preseason series. OU won the first game 5-3, but Texas turned it around and won 10-2 the next night.
With the history between Oklahoma and the Tornado, the exhibition games don?t only help on the ice but off the ice as well.
?It?s not only good for our players,? Arvantis said. ?But it?s also good for some of the players who have played [for the Tornado] in the past, to come back and showcase themselves being an OU student.?
The two games might mean the most to the two players on the Sooners roster who won a national championship with the Tornado last season. Freshmen forwards Mico Solorzano and Jordan Greenberg will be playing against many players they went to battle with night after night just months ago.
?[I?m] definitely looking forward to playing those guys,? Solorzano said. ?It?s going to be a little weird at first, but it?s going to be fun.?
Last season, the Sooners were eliminated in the semifinal round of the American Collegiate Hockey Association national championship tournament in a frustrating loss to Penn State. There?s much anticipation in the Oklahoma locker room to get back on the ice and put those memories in the past.
?My main goal is getting back to nationals and redeeming ourselves,? senior forward Chad Hudson said.
